How To Keep Flowers Alive Longer

In this post I’m going to tell you exactly what to do and what not to do to keep your flowers alive and happy longer.

DO

  • Trim the ends of the stems everyday or every other day at a 45 degree angle to increase the surface area so the flower can drink better. (Make sure the clippers your using are clean too!)

  • Change out the water everyday or every other day and use cool water. Hot water breeds bacteria.

  • If you have access to flower food packets put a little in the clean water.

  • Remove any spent blooms, petals or leaves to prevent the other flowers from getting bacteria.

  • Most flowers can drink water through their petals as well as through their stem so a light misting with enough airflow between blooms will help.

DO NOT

  • Place the flowers in the sunlight or near a vent.

  • Place or mix fruits in with flowers. Fruit releases a gas called Ethelyn that will kill the flowers.

  • Forget to water or trim the stems!
